About 1DROP
1DROP is a collective dedicated to empowering developers of color through advocacy (policy, fundraising, partnerships) and comprehensive support (mentorship, apprenticeship, co-development, development services). Our mission is to dismantle systemic barriers in real estate and expand opportunities for minority developers by providing financial resources, mentorship, and technical assistance.
As we grow, we seek committed leaders to join our Board of Directors to provide strategic guidance, governance, and financial stewardship that will amplify our impact.
Board Member Responsibilities
As a 1DROP board member, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our nonprofit’s strategic direction and ensuring long-term sustainability. Responsibilities include:
Governance & Oversight:
Provide strategic leadership and ensure the organization stays true to its mission.
Oversee financial health, compliance, and risk management.
Support the Executive Director and leadership team.
Fundraising & Financial Support:
Leverage personal and professional networks to secure funding.
Identify and cultivate potential donors, grants, and capital partners.
Assist in financial planning and oversight.
Advocacy & Policy Influence:
Champion 1DROP’s mission and advocate for policies that benefit developers of color.
Engage with government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and industry stakeholders.
Support initiatives that increase equitable real estate development opportunities.
Networking & Community Engagement:
Represent 1DROP at industry events, speaking engagements, and media opportunities.
Facilitate partnerships with key stakeholders in real estate, finance, and policy.
Mentor and support developers of color within the 1DROP network.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We seek 5-7 board members who bring expertise in the following areas:
Fundraising & Capital Partners – Individuals with strong relationships in philanthropy, impact investing, CDFIs, and government funding.
Housing Policy Experts – Professionals with experience in housing equity, real estate policy, zoning, and public sector engagement.
Urban Planners – Experts in urban development, infrastructure, and equitable land use policy.
Legal Professionals – Attorneys specializing in nonprofit law, real estate, or housing policy.
Finance & Accounting Leaders – CFOs, accountants, or nonprofit administrators with financial oversight experience.
Community Leaders – Individuals deeply connected to communities of color and grassroots movements.
We welcome diverse candidates who share our commitment to racial equity in real estate and economic empowerment.
Commitment & Expectations
Term Length: 3 years (with the option for renewal).
Meetings: Quarterly board meetings + additional committee work as needed.
Financial Contribution: While there is no set donation requirement, board members are encouraged to contribute or facilitate fundraising.
Time Commitment: Estimated 4-6 hours per month (meetings, networking, and advocacy efforts).
