On September 16, partners and community leaders gathered at Lawrence Street to mark the ribbon cutting of Veya, a 10-unit duplex community in Central Tacoma. This missing middle housing project was led by Reggie Brown, co-founder of 1DROP and founder of Louis Rudolph Homes, with Project Manager Lexie Brown from Alexandria Construction, delivering thoughtfully designed homes in just nine months.

From Vacant Lot to Homeownership
The ribbon cutting highlighted the team effort that brought Veya to completion. Reggie Brown served as lead developer, while Louis Rudolph Homes provided general contracting. Sound Capital, the project's lender, ensured financing alignment, and Lexie Brown guided the project from planning to delivery, supported by construction resident Sophia Boeder.
The ceremony featured remarks from key contributors who shared insights into the project's journey, from overcoming mid-construction challenges to delivering homes that serve real families with real needs. Guests toured the five stacked duplex buildings, each containing a one-bedroom ground floor unit and two-bedroom upper unit, designed to support households at different life stages.
The event emphasized the broader mission of creating homeownership opportunities in underrepresented communities, with early outreach efforts connecting prospective buyers through partnerships like the Black Home Initiative.
“I think it’s just going to make great spaces for families. We’re in the heart of Tacoma right here, so I’m really excited about that. We wanted to create homes that serve families with real needs”
The Ripple Effect
The Veya ribbon cutting marks the successful execution of missing middle housing that fosters connection, opportunity, and equity in Central Tacoma. The development stands as proof that collaborative family partnerships can deliver quality housing while advancing the skills and experience of emerging developers.
As attendees networked and explored the completed units, the event reinforced the ripple effect philosophy that drives impactful development: creating long-term community connections and opportunities for shared success.
